How To Talk To Your Partner

How To Talk To Your Partner

Relationships are NOT easy. Being around another person is always going to be a struggle. Communication is key.

Is this the answer to everything?

Now I’m not saying communication is the answer to every thing in your relationship but I can guarantee a BIG chunk of misunderstandings could be avoided by simply communicating.

If you’re not used to speaking openly to your partner about what’s on your mind then this could be difficult to begin with. You need to accept that you’re going to feel awkward and the situation is going to be new territory.

Sit down and talk freely

Sit down and allow yourselves each time to talk. Don’t talk over each other. Listen to what the other has to say and wait for them to finish speaking before you start. By listening to what each of you have to say, you’re forming an unspoken respect for each others opinions and creating a valid safe space for you both to talk.

Let them speak

You have to allow your partners opinions to come through. We’re all individuals that need our own opinions and thought processes and sometimes this can be hard to combat.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy is a wonderful tool to seek out if that’s something you both need. It’s about you both as a partnership. A lot of the time, we all have toxic traits that we have learned along the roads of life and they can be hard to snap out of or even realise we have them!

There seems to be a lot of stigma surrounding therapy – especially going to see a therapist as a couple. You have not failed as a couple and you’re not on the verge of breaking up. You’ve chosen to work through things, together, as a couple. That’s hugely admirable and should be celebrated. You don’t need to wait until things get to a point of no return to go to couples therapy!

By going to therapy sessions together you can both work through your struggles and issues together, as a couple. As opposed to one of you thinking you have all the issues and going it alone!

By allowing you and your partner to have time to talk freely and allowing you both to have valid opinions, you will start to find talking about ANYTHING so simple.

I could tell you how to talk to your partner until I’m blue in the face but the fact of the matter is – you need to go and do it!

Lots of great advice, it’s amazing how many people find it difficult to speak to their loved one.
Communication is key, unfortunately not everyone is open enough to talk.
    Very nice post, thanks

Talking is always good – sometimes a neutral person can see what we often miss

That’s the one thing me and my husband do, is talk. I think it’s very important as how can you spend the rest of your life with someone you can’t talk, confide or share things. It maybe why we have been together 26 years this year, married 20 years and we’re. Hikdhood sweethearts as 15. You also need to laugh, that’s important!
